My blog from Houston, Texas. Updated most weeks, usually on Sundays.
There must be very few places in the world, if any, that are better to be than Sydney (Australia) to welcome a new year.
I have just spent an all-too-short week in my home city of Sydney, sharing Christmas and New Year with my family. All four of our children, and thus all four of our grandchildren as well, converged on Sydney from their various home cities, and we were able to spend a wonderfully relaxing time together, catching up on each others’ news and simply sharing time together.
Following the spectacular fireworks on Sydney Harbor at midnight, it was with understandable sadness that I left Sydney on New Year’s Day to return to work in Houston. I am posting this blog just before boarding my flight at Sydney Airport, but given the vagaries of crossing the International Date Line, it will still be New Year’s Day when I arrive in Houston. In fact, according to the clock, iI will be arriving in Houston in just three and a half hours from now, but in reality I am about to embark on a long journey of about 24 hours duration.
All too quickly, the wonderful experiences of sharing time with my family will become a series of happy memories, aided of course by the hundreds of photos I took during my visit. At the risk of being a little indulgent, please let me share just a few of my family photos with you before closing with a farewell view of Sydney just after take-off.
Happy New Year, 2013
