Auditorium construction has started
Sunday, 9 August 2009
When our students return to the campus two weeks from now, they will notice a very significant change. After several years of planning, and despite a typhoon that passed very close to Hong Kong this week, construction of our new auditorium has begun (see picture above, which like all photos in this blog, can be clicked to enlarge).
At the end of last term, when the students left for their summer break, the auditorium site looked like the photos below.
The area near the sports centre has already been transformed. At the beginning of this week, the scene was as shown in the image below:
By the end of this week, work had progressed considerably despite the weather, as shown in the images below:
Of course, there is a huge amount of work to do before this project is complete, and we estimate the construction period will be one year. Nonetheless, for those of us who see the need for this facility so that the entire College community can gather together under shelter, the start of construction is indeed an exciting time.
My next blog will be a little late, as I leave tomorrow morning with a group of 20 students from the College to visit North Korea. We will exit North Korea on 18th August, and so internet access will be impossible for us all until after that date.
