Where in the world is Dr Codrington?

A weekly Geography game for Awty’s younger students

There were 30 rounds, each with three images showing photographs taken by Dr Codrington during his travels.  One image was for students in Grades 2 and 3, one was for students in Grades 4 and 5, and one was for students in Grades 6 to 8.  Students were asked to use their research skills to suggest where in the world the photo was taken.

“Where in the World is Dr Codrington’ was a weekly quiz that ran during 2012 and 2013 to help Awty's younger students improve their geographical knowledge.

The instructions for the competition (now closed) are shown below.

Dr Codrington is a geographer who has been to many places.  You can see a list of the countries that Dr Codrington has visited by clicking on the map above.

Each week during term time (usually on a Sunday) he will upload three photos he has taken during his travels.

Students are invited to suggest where the photo was taken, to give their reasons, and to say something interesting about the place.  Answers are to be submitted, either in English or in French, on the entry forms available in Awty’s Library or for download on this page.

Each week's 'top answer' will be published on this website, and running totals of scores will be kept so that each term the highest scoring students from both the Middle School and Lower School will be invited to have lunch with Dr Codrington in the board room.

The rules are simple:

  1. 1.Maximum of one entry per student per week.  Only students at The Awty International School are eligible to enter.

  2. 2.There are three divisions: grades 2-3, grades 4-5, and grades 6-8.

  3. 3.Submit entry forms to a librarian by Thursday noon each week.  Forms are available here for Grades 2-3 or 4-5 or 6-8, or as hard copy in the Library.

  4. 4.Judging will be done by the librarians as follows:

  5. a.Lower School (Grades 2 and 3): 1 point for correct country; up to 2 points for reasoning/justification.
