If Di and I were aeroplanes, today would be described as our ‘repositioning’.  Our aim for the day was achieved easily – we repositioned from Chicago to Miami.

We managed to catch up on some much needed sleep, as rest on two of the past three nights had been severely dented by late night blog writing followed by long phone calls to family in Australia that had continued well after midnight.

Having slept in until 8:30 am this morning, we had a leisurely breakfast that was immensely more edible than yesterday’s experience.  Late morning we caught a shuttle van to Chicago’s O’Hare airport, arriving there at 12:30 pm, comfortably early for our 2:55 pm departure.

The flight, which was on an American Airlines Boeing 737 was mostly smooth, although the more hazy air between Chicago and Miami made views through the window far less interesting than the flight from Seattle a few days ago.  That was until we started our approach to Miami Airport, when we flew low over the Everglades, giving me an oblique aerial perspective of my main destination in Florida.  My appetite for exploring the Everglades has certainly been whetted by seeing the area from above, although with tomorrow’s dismal weather forecast I doubt those explorations will begin as soon as I might have hoped.

With a one hour time change, we landed on schedule at 7:10 pm, collected our rental car and drove to our hotel where a wonderful surprise awaited us – we were upgraded to a two room (plus two bathrooms) suite with a high view looking east to the Miami Beach area in the distance.  I don’t think I have ever been in such a comfortably large hotel room; great value for $154 per night with breakfast, drinks and internet included.
