Orientation Week at LPCUWC
Orientation Week has just finished (whew!) during which our 135 new 1st Year students from 57 different countries were welcomed to China, to Hong Kong and to Li Po Chun United World College.
The week began last Sunday night with a welcome performance in the Courtyard that opened with a lion dance, and continued with dancing (see photo), singing, some very short speeches, and - always a highlight - a superb dragon dance.
During the week, our new students have moved into their rooms, met a couple of hundred new friends from around the globe, stayed out on an overnight camp, chosen their subjects for the next two years, opened bank accounts, visited The Peak and seen the lights show on Victoria Harbour, applied for Hong Kong ID cards, completed a “magical mystery” orientation around Hong Kong, enjoyed their first tutor group dinner in their tutor’s flats, heard about the College’s service and action programs, attended a quan cai fair, and lots lots more.
Orientation Week concluded last night with an international dinner followed by a show performed by all the 2nd Year students to welcome the new arrivals. The dinner was magnificent, not only because of the tastes of the world that we enjoyed (with much of the food prepared by the students), or for the display of flags that encircled the canteen, but also for the stunning display of fashions as everyone represented their country by wearing national dress.
Is it any wonder the new students (and their Principal!) look so happy - and also so ready for a good sleep?
