South-west Iceland
South-west Iceland
Yes- a mid-week blog! But only a short one. Di, Andrew and I are travelling through Iceland, and we are staying at Kirkjubaejarklaustur, a town whose name is even more of a tongue twister when you hear it than when you read it! Yet again, we have an unexpected internet connection, so I have used the opportunity to share something of our travels. Actually, it is a mixed blessing; when I arrived here there were 28 work-related e-mails waiting for me that had been sent since I last checked e-mails 12 hours earlier, and of these, six related to enrolment issues for September that are still unresolved (or, at least, they were before I replied to the e-mails!).
We are all really enjoying Iceland. The air is clean, the geography is fantastic and the experiences unforgettable. So far, we have explored the capital city, Reykjavik, explored the Golden Triangle (the three centres of Thingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss), spent a day on an island called Vestmannaeyjar, and travelled around the southern coast of Iceland to Kirkjubaejarklaustur (a name that means “church farm convent”). With a population of 170 people, Kirkjubaejarklaustur is by far the largest settlement in this part of Iceland, and boasts a petrol station and two cafés in addition to the hotel where we are staying.
I have uploaded a gallery of 44 images to share some highlights of our experiences so far, and it can be accessed HERE.
For family members and friends with the password to the Family Galleries section of the website, there is an additional gallery with 18 images that can be accessed HERE.
I hope to upload the next blog in a few days from now, depending on internet access.
It is now 11 pm, and although the sky is overcast it is very light and bright. It is strange that I don’t feel as tired as I should be just yet.
