We had to be flexible with our travel plans in the Faroe Islands b because of the highly localised and changeable weather. We based ourselves in Tórshavn because it was sufficiently central to go anywhere as a day trip, chasing the sunning weather. We began today in fog-shrouded Tórshavn looking around Skansin Fort, which was built in 1580 to protect the settlement against pirate raids. Once we realised that the fog was not going to lift, we changed our original preliminary plans and headed north-west to the small settlements of Tjørnuvík and Saksun. It was a good choice as the skies were clear and sunny and the scenery looked quite spectacular.
