Mykines is one part of the Faroe Islands that cannot be reached by car; it is only accessible by boat from the port of Sørvágur. We were keen to include Mykines in our itinerary because it is the best place to see puffins. And we did - hundreds of them and at very close range, which was fortunate because we were also encountering the puffins through for most of our time there. (The fog hugged the cliff tops, which was the puffins’ territory, even tough the fog was thinner or non-existent at lower altitudes where the village was located). After our return to Sørvágur, we drove to the north-west to see the spectacular waterfall scenery of Gásadalur, arriving just a few minutes before the thick fog rolled in from the ocean.
