Scotland and Faroe Islands Travel Diary 2023

Today’s drive was a relatively long one involving fewer stops than usual as we left the Isle of Skye, again using the Skye Bridge, and headed east, then south to the small village of Ballachulish.  Ballachulish was perhaps a strange choice for overnight accommodation, but the area around Fort William (our preferred destination) was quite expensive and, despite the huge number of guesthouses there, difficult to find vacancies.  The main sight in Ballachulish is (perhaps surprisingly) the abandoned slate mining quarry which made for an interesting evening walk, especially now that it has been landscaped and furnished with some informative signage.  Ballachulish itself doesn’t really have any other notable sights, although I found the Well Being Shed that had been established during COVID to provide food (donated from the town’s shops and residents) really interesting.
